Professor Edgley is in the country for his English Language Fellowship. He is teaching at Central Philippine University in Iloilo City. Together with his teaching load and regular participation to the city’s growing literary circle, he is currently involved with teaching poetry to female inmates in Iloilo City Police Headquarters (PP1).
I’m an English Language Fellow for the US Dept. of State, conducting cultural and educational programs around the Philippines. I’m also a faculty member at a university in Iloilo City. This summer, I’ll be conducting weekly poetry workshops for a select number of female inmates at the Iloilo District Jail. The hope is to be able to help them craft poems that breach ideas such as freedom, barriers, the body, gender, and female experience. My colleague and I, Professor Zerrudo, plan to write an analytical piece on our experiences at the prison as well.
