Today, about hundred students of PHINMA-UI attended the Celebrating Youth Innovations event.
Led by members of Global Shapers Iloilo – Ms. Noreen Bautista, Ms. Herra Barrameda, Ms. Gian Bermudo and Ms. Sheryl Cordero – together with PHINMA University of Iloilo Center for Student Development and Leadership, YSEALI-WLA and USGAA Panay and Guimaras, the event provided the participants a venue to learn about practical skills, knowledge and tools to innovate ideas.
YSEALI alums shared inputs and stories to inspire, and at the same time, ground the youth on the complex realities in the region needing focus and creative solutions. Ms. Juvelyn Boniba-Pamonag, Senior Economic Development Specialist of NEDA Region VI, discussed the aspirations of Filipino families and the barriers that limit them from achieving those aspirations and gave a comprehensive picture on the state of development in Region 6. Ms. Czarinnah Araneta, YSEALI-WLA 2019 Country Lead, highlighted the need to support adolescent health as investment to youth development and reminded the participants the value of health as a resource; that the soft side of economic growth is equally important with the hard side of economic growth. Ms. Angelica Belarmino, Interim Vice-Chairperson of USGAA Panay and Guimaras, shared practical tips on innovating and emphasized that innovations can be used as a platform for equity and inclusion. Towards the end of the activity, participants practiced innovation ideation, guided by a tool provided and facilitated by Global Shapers Iloilo.
Ms. Celia Nuñez, Director of Chemeketa, who is currently on an Outbound Program for US State Department Professional Fellowship shared her observations and insights on the presentations.
This event is intended to jumpstart partnerships between organizations to empower and support youth-led innovations in Iloilo.
