Before becoming a champion in Inclusive governance, Coun. Jom was once a passionate Sangguniang Kabataan chairperson. In 2007, she graduated from the University of the Philippines Tacloban College with a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Social Science major in Psychology. Her passion for public service motivated her to run for Tacloban city council.
In 2013, she became the first openly transgender woman elected to public office.
Her social inclusion initiatives paved the way for the US Department of State to award her the Spring 2015 Professional Fellows program in Washington, DC, USA under the American Council of Young Political Leaders. Now on her 2nd term as city councilor, she heads the committee on Women and Children’s welfare and continues to create positive impacts on Gender and Development.
